FACILITY AND PROGRAM OVERSIGHT

As the sole faculty member in the Jewelry and Metals area, I assume responsibility for all matters pertaining to facilities maintenance and development.  Routine responsibilities in this area include the research, acquisition, maintenance and repair of all studio equipment and materials, as well as tool and material inventory, organization, and health/safety oversight.  Major improvements*, above and beyond routine studio management, have included the design, construction and installation of student workbenches and smithing piers, the production and modification of specialized tools (i.e. stakes and swages), and the design and construction of custom machine-tools, to address unique student project needs. A conservative estimate of time invested in these activities (exclusive of teaching responsibilities) is fifteen (15) hours per week, minimum.

* Note: During the summer of 2008, I developed plans, in consultation with JZM Architects, for the relocation and reconfiguration of the Jewelry & Metalsmithing studios, from their current location on the 2nd floor of the Saisselin Art Building to the ground floor (a project directed toward improving building efficiencies and maximizing teaching space).  My contribution included functional space assessments, concept drawings and CAD drawings.  This project remains under consideration pending funding and administrative approval.
